  • Waltes

Waltes is a traditional Mi’kmaw game played with bone or antler dice and a hardwood bowl. This game is normally played with just two people. Our staff have adapted the game, making it possible to play with larger groups and incorporate discussion about traditional values while teaching how to play it.

  • Journey Stones

Throughout history, the Mi’kmaq have used stones and rocks to tell stories and leave messages for those who would follow. By examining some of the traditional symbols, we can better understand how the Mi’kmaq communicated before there was a written language.

Participants will have the opportunity to create their own symbol and draw it on a rock, which they can carry to tell their own story.

    Cost: $3.00 per person
Recommended activity age level: Primary to grade 2
    Time required: 30 minutes

  • Talking Sticks

Since long ago, the talking stick has been instrumental in keeping order and teaching us respect for others. Each participant will be given a wooden dowel to personalize by painting a unique design. Ribbons of the four traditional colours will then be added, ending off with natural leather ties and feathers attached to the end.

    Cost: $7.00 per person
Recommended activity age level: All ages
    Time required: 60-90 minutes
