At the Millbrook Cultural and Heritage Centre, our passionate and knowledgeable team is dedicated to preserving and sharing the rich culture and history of Mi’kmaq people. Each member brings unique skills and a shared commitment to fostering a deeper understanding of Mi’kmaq heritage. From leading guided tours to curating exhibits and hosting community events, our team is here to make every visit educational and memorable.     I have lived in Millbrook for most of my life and have always wanted to learn about who I am, my past, and my family. As a child, I was raised in the United States, where I was not connected to any other Mi’kmaq people except for my family. The history of who we are was never spoken about. It was tough living in the US as a Native, but my grandfather, even though he was a residential school survivor, tried his best to instill in me that I was special–I was Mi’kmaq. After my grandfather’s death, we moved to Nova Scotia, where my family is from.

    It took a very long time to be accepted into the community, and at times, I am still considered an outsider. Working at the Millbrook Cultural & Heritage Centre is a great way to spend my days; I have learned so much about who I am and what my family stood for and had gone through here in Nova Scotia, as well as the Mi’kmaq People as a whole. I am now very proud to be who I am and to be able to share that with people that I have met people from all over the world and from all walks of life. I have heard so many stories that relate so much to our story, from here in Canada to Australia. I really enjoy being able to share our history and culture and learn from them as well.

    Working here at the Millbrook Cultural and Heritage Centre is the best job I have ever had. There are several reasons why I love this job. I get to meet people from all over the world and teach them our culture. I’m always learning something new about my own culture, which I can then teach to others as well. Also, as the store supervisor, I get the chance to help support our local craft people by buying and selling their crafts.
